"it's getting really interesting now! i like the idea of the magic system a lot. i like where the characters are going. only thing i'm not entirely sold on yet is the writing style. for a book so focused on linguistics and the way language shapes reality, some phrases and the style in general feels a bit too modern? i'll talk about it more in the review" Sep 24, 2022 09:09AM

Aeschylus
“PROMETHEUS: 'Oh, it is easy for the one who stands outside the prison-wall of pain to exhort and teach the one who suffers”
Aeschylus, Prometheus Bound

Leigh Bardugo
“We meet fear. We greet the unexpected visitor and listen to what he has to tell us. When fear arrives, something is about to happen.
Leigh Bardugo, Crooked Kingdom

Rainer Maria Rilke
“Nowhere, beloved, can world be but within us. Our life passes in transformation. And the external dwindles away.”
Rainer Maria Rilke

Nina LaCour
“I thought that it was more likely the opposite. I must have shut grief out. Found it in books. Cried over fiction instead of the truth. The truth was unconfined, unadorned. There was no poetic language to it, no yellow butterflies, no epic floods. There wasn't a town trapped underwater or generations of men with the same name destined to make the same mistakes. The truth was vast enough to drown in.”
Nina LaCour, We Are Okay

Libba Bray
“Every city is a ghost.
New buildings rise upon the bones of the old so that each shiny steel bean, each tower of brick carries within it the memories of what has gone before, an architectural haunting. Sometimes you can catch a glimpse of these former incarnations in the awkward angle of a street or filigreed gate, an old oak door peeking out from a new facade, the plaque commemorating the spot that was once a battleground, which became a saloon and is now a park.”
Libba Bray, Lair of Dreams
