"I kind of hate reading about his 'birth'. I mean people of character need to have a difficult childhood, but that doesn't make it easy to witness. So well written though. Love reading. When I don't hate reading." — Apr 28, 2026 10:34AM

"Gallant has a nice gothic atmosphere and when I'm reading it, it usually isn't a chore. But it is a slow moving plot. We're at 50% of the book and Olivia has only gone from the Orphanage to the house and I feel like nothing has really happened? She's unravelling more of the mystery of her mother, the wall, the house, and her cousin. But dang bro. I'm impatient" — Apr 29, 2026 11:57AM

“[T]he unnamed soldier is a gift. The named soldier--dead, melted wax--demands a response among the living...a response no-one can make. Names are no comfort, they're a call to answer the unanswerable. Why did she die, not him? Why do the survivors remain anonymous--as if cursed--while the dead are revered? Why do we cling to what we lose while we ignore what we still hold?
Name none of the fallen, for they stood in our place, and stand there still in each moment of our lives. Let my death hold no glory, and let me die forgotten and unknown. Let it not be said that I was one among the dead to accuse the living.”
― Deadhouse Gates
