Book cover for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4)
‘There’s a rumour going round, Warrington got up early and put his name in,’ Dean told Harry. ‘That big bloke from Slytherin who looks like a sloth.’ Harry, who had played Quidditch against Warrington, shook his head in disgust. ‘We can’t ...more

crazybutperfectlysane on Tumblr made a post saying "So I was rereading Harry Potter, when I came across this & thought - what if instead of Cedric Diggory, Cassius Warrington had been chosen to compete in the Triwizard Tournament? Imagine Dumbledore calling out the name of the Hogwarts champion and it isn't a Gyffindor, or a Ravenclaw, or even a Hufflepuff, but it's a Slytherin. A student from a House most people hate. Imagine Cassius Warrington getting up, and three of the four houses are booing at him and shouting things like "NO!" or, "We can't have a Slytherin champion!" or demanding a retry. But he's a Slytherin - he's been dealing with this shit since he got sorted, so he keeps his head high & joins the other champions. Imagine Harry trying to catch Warrington alone because he doesn't really want to associate with Slytherin (plus Malfoy has this tendency of being around this guy ALL THE TIME since he got chosen), but at the same time he's also fair enough not to want him to walk into the first task unprepared. Imagine walking into Warrington walking over to Harry a few months later, and Ron & Hermione both jump into a protective stance, wands out, but instead of attacking Harry he just tells him to stick the egg underwater. (Because Slytherins don't forget those who helped them out). Imagine Warrington & Harry helping each other out in the labyrinth. Imagine Harry being devastated when Peter kills Warrington - because Voldemort doesn't care what house they're from, a spare is a spare. Imagine the uproar that causes among the Slytherins, because some of their parents really are Death Eaters & they know what really happened. Imagine Slytherins fighting in the Battle of Hogwarts and shouting "This is for Cassius!" I love have loved this because it would have driven home the quote "You fail to recognize that it matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!" which Dumbledore says later on in the book as well as show the Slytherins using their Resourcefulness, Determination, Ambition etc for good

It's definitely a prejudice thing. I mean, a lot of people are proud to be Slytherin, but not the way Rowling wrote them the way they. I love this thought. I never really thought of it that way. But I…

Dominic Holland
“The truth was that she was terrified of these people and terrified of being rejected, and had decided that she would do nothing but believe passionately in fate. All those years at school learning about algebra and ox-bow lakes and not one lesson in self-esteem!”
Dominic Holland, Only in America

Emily Giffin
“Women in the twenty-first century (which still sounds so funny to my ears) have options. We can marry or not marry; have children or not have children; be stay-at-home mothers or have careers. So yes, I told her, I want to get married, and yes, I want to find a life mate sooner rather than later, but that didn’t make me a bad feminist. It just made me determined to have it all—”
Emily Giffin, The Lies That Bind

H.D. Carlton
“When you make someone fall in love with the darkest parts of you, there’s nothing you can do that will scare them away. They will be yours forever because they already love all the fucked up bits and pieces of you.”
H.D. Carlton, Haunting Adeline

Sarah Pinborough
“Memory. We rely on it so heavily for everything we know about ourselves and those around us, but actually we remember so little. Just wisps of emotions or a smell or a moment. Corrupted files in our heads. Pages missing, torn or burned. Disks unreadable. Memories are like time, constantly slipping from our grasp.”
Sarah Pinborough, Insomnia

“Centuries ago there lived--

“A king!” my little readers will say immediately.

No, children, you are mistaken. Once upon a time there was a piece of wood. It was not an expensive piece of wood.”
Carlo Lorenzini, Pinocchio
