It's heavy concentrated reading with much detail and tiny print. My bookmark is at page 225 Chapter Ten DIVORCE 1916-1919. My son only today reminded me of Einstein's agreement with his wife regards their divorce and the Nobel Peace Prize. I'm heartily warmed by the fact that my 21 year old son has taken the book into his library of knowledge.
Hand notes I had penned on pages 9, 26-31 set the backdrop and what shaped this influential man before his time. "Think in Pictures" is the hand note I have made which especially appeals to me as that is what I tend to do as do many people, designers, architects and children especially.
Chapter 2 Childhood 1879-1896 page 9 excerpt ..."I very rarely think in words at all," he later told a psychologist. "A thought comes, and I may try to express it in words afterwards."
Not only is this one of many nuggets and perhaps aha moments for readers it is also a key element pertinent to Einstein's education refer page 26.
So much can be gleaned and taken on board about education and the value of individuals from this one page alone.
Obviously I resonate with Einstein's attitude and the attitude of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi, a Swiss educational reformer of the early nineteenth century, referred to in the book and pivotal to Einstein's growth, who believed in encouraging students to visualize images and thought it important to nurture the "inner dignity" and individuality of each child. Excerpt ... "When compared to six years' schooling at a German authoritarian gymnasium," Einstein later said, "it made me clearly realize how much superior an education based on free action and personal responsibility is to one relying on outward authority."
Paraphrasing, the author references that visual understanding of concepts became a significant aspect of Einstein's genius.
"Visual understanding is the essential and only true means of teaching how to judge things correctly," Pestalozzi wrote, and "the learning of numbers and language must be definitely subordinated."
Many many nuggets throughout the book.
If you are a dreamer or visualizer, have of an entrepreneurial mindset or are a "freedom thinker", don't fit in with the normal academic criteria, the story of Einstein will be reassuring.
Page 27 moves into early political influences and idealism.
The book has in hindsight become a reference book for me.
So so much richness to gain and re-read.

Practically the book is cumbersome to handle though with 675 pages. Reading such tends to put me to sleep.
However, there's an assortment of black and white images which break the drum and stimulates reader association and relevance.
