The New Hire
by
Ummm, I live in Austin - where in the city is this supposed to be? Along Town Lake (which isn’t a lake - it’s part of the Lower Colorado River created after the Mansfield Dam was erected creating Lake Travis. There are very few l, as in like maybe 3 restaurants, that face that part of the Town Lake ‘in the bustling downtown district.’ Has the author confused San Antonio with its ‘River Walk,’ a wholly man made and chlorinated waterway that runs through cultural heart of San Antonio that has shopping and dining galore along it? Oh, and at one point of egress, people visiting the city literally walk up a fairly steep stairway to be greeted by The Alamo. Yes, THE Alamo is smack dab in the heart of SA.
But, Town Lake is a flowing river with motor boats, sail boats, and party barges. In fact, the only restaurants in the business district of Austin that face the water (city side) do so to get a glimpse of the Congress Avenue Bridge where during the summer months - literally millions of fruit bats emerge to take flight.
One thing that really annoys me is when people screw up locales that are easily researched. There are other spots along the riverbank and the various inlets that boast fine restaurants but a French Bistro? I’ll check it out when I go into the city next weekend. Who knows? Maybe it’s there and I’ve been missing this jewel for nearly 20 years.
