The feelings of the sublime are partly an aesthetic experience and is predicated on the mood of the observer. It's not as simple as an emotional response as fear that is purely physiological. It's size can be dynamic, from a mountain to viewing microscopic cells given the environment it is viewed in. Also sublimity does not have to occur in the actual physical presence of the object; a photograph can elicit it or literary works.
