Cold Storage has been on my TBR list since 2019! The cover is AMAZING and the plot blurb sounds like epic fun. Even though I was dying to read it, for whatever reason, it just kept getting bumped down the wait list.

2023 is the year of tackling my To Be Read list. While browsing all the TBR piles around the house, I finally landed on Cold Storage. I could not wait to FINALLY dive into this one. 😀

WOOOO! I straight up LOVED this book! OMG, so fun. 😀 Ok, so there is a little bit of animal death and cruelty that I did not care much for. >.< But, aside from that, the book was so good. The animal death is easy to fast forward. It does serve as a useful plot device for the spread of the fungi, not just a cheap shock, so that is easier to deal with, you know?

The plot and setting is awesome. 🙂 A forgotten about subbasement area in the middle of Kansas. Secret alien fungi that falls to Earth. Exploding people. I mean… uh, what is not to love with all of the above?? 😀 I don’t know what moves quicker, the story or the fungi infecting you? D: Cold storage left me hanging on the edge of my seat the whole time. 😮

The main group of characters are great. I had so much fun rooting for (or against) them. Everyone had such a perfect fit in the story. Plenty of characters but nobody felt shoe horned into the plot. Fun banter back and forth between everyone. The writing of the characters and of the way they talked felt very normal and realistic.

The narrator does a nice performance, too. Everyone sounds unique. I never felt confused as to who was talking. Also does a decent job at different genders. The narrator does a great job of capturing personalities and the emotions of the characters.

Cold storage is a BLAST! Total enjoyment from start to finish. Great setting, fun plot, relatable characters. Never a dull time throughout the book. I am sure I will be revisiting this book again and again. 😀 Definitely recommending this one, with a big thumbs up. Will also keep my eye on this author’s other work from now on. ...more "
