This book is quite a ride! As I read from the beginning, I kept wondering if this was going to go somewhere, anywhere?... As it turned out it was going in many directions, all at the same time! I stuck with it though, and then I started to see that all of these directions were actually connected and after a while would all turn into a solid plot. Now that I have put it all in order in my mind and see it coming together with the second generation in the past. But it will definitely take volume 2 for me to find out if Rain and her talking goose will have any of Elphaba in her, other than their green skin. I am anxiously hoping! As Rain grows a little older being only a teenager in this story, one with amnesia and no memory of who or what or where she was shortly before this book began. I say read it; it is a blast!

Joni Sensel
“Aiden drew Lana's eleven over his skin like a cloak, and inside it, found love. For a time the humming of all other numbers dimmed behind the brilliant None they created in each other's arms.
The oaks, hazels, and yews of the grove heard that None, and they whispered.”
Joni Sensel, The Humming of Numbers

“My memory is to the world as a drawing is to the photograph. Imperfect. More perfect. We remember what we must, what we choose to, because it is more beautiful and real than the truth.”
Christopher Ruocchio, Empire of Silence
