stern glare before he walked off again, which Quinn did not miss. There could be no doubt in Carithway’s expression. Surely, if anything had shattered, Quinn would have a curse just like Senrind. Returning to Ms Aria, Carithway carefully ...more

I took a chance on this book by an author I had never read before (Kaely Rose) I found that it was her first publication. I am very glad I did go ahead and pick this book, as it was very enjoyable and the first part of a trilogy. Now I am looking forward to the next volume to come out... I have fallen in love with the two main characters Senrind and Carithway and need to know how the ending of book #1 turns out for the unlikely twosome, and how the story will continue. This book was such a pleasant surprise that caught me off guard, but it was perfect!

S. Palmer Smith
“2001, NOKIA CELLPHONE
His first cellphone was slipped
into his hands on September 12th,
2001. The cover was the American Flag.
“It’s just... in case of emergency,”
his mother whispered to him.
As if the world had not ended,
had not evaporated already.
He still goes to school.
He hears myths on the bus about Hussein.
He donates his piggy bank to Fire Station 86.
In it is a 20-dollar bill and purple
pieces of toy soldiers.
He wonders if the soldiers’ hearts exploded.
He wants them back in the piggy bank.”
Palmer Smith, The Butterfly Bruises

Christopher Ruocchio
“The man who hopes for the future delays its arrival, and the man who dreads it summons it to his door.”
Christopher Ruocchio, Empire of Silence

Christopher Ruocchio
“Sad is like a big ocean, and you can’t breathe deep down. You can float on it, you can swim a little, but be careful. Grief is drowning. Grief is deep water.”
Christopher Ruocchio, Howling Dark

Saara El-Arifi
“You are the fire of my heart, and the beat of
my drum. I am yours under moonlight. Until the rhythm sings no more.”
Saara El-Arifi, Faebound

Brian Jacques
“After the burial, the hares of the Long Patrol sang a short verse as a farewell to their comrade. “Now the sunny glades are silent, where our fallen warriors lay. As in memory we treasure all the brave who marched away. Through the dusty seasons rolling, o’er our passing out parade, how we laughed and sang together, Oh your face ’twill never fade.”
Brian Jacques, Rakkety Tam
