I personally think John Green is a really good author. The plot in this book was interesting and the theme showed how you should cherish life and sort of live in the moment. It shows how cancer can affect people’s lives. One of my favorite quote from the book is when Augustus Waters says, “That's the thing about pain it demands to be felt”(68). John Green really shows how people with cancer think and feel about themselves and how they deal with it. The main character Hazel Grace Lancaster who has stage 4 thyroid cancer, seems kind of shy about her condition and really shows how cancer can affect a person of my age. Although they gave her a new type of medicine that gave her unlimited time, she still had to have an oxygen Augustus Water lost his leg to osteosarcoma. They kind of made a connection when they meet at a support group that Hazel Grace’s mom made her go to, and learned more about each other's conditions. I thought the part where Augustus Waters says, “ you put the killing thing right in between you teeth, but you don’t give it the power to do it’d killing”. That quote was really inspiring to me and I thought it was interesting how he worded it. John Green kind of took two people who had cancer and turned it into a love story. Another thing I thought was cute was when Augustus took Hazel Grace to see her favorite artist. It kind of was a twist how the artist reacted to their appearance. It also confused with what happened while they were there. They really bonded and made a connection and it sort of seemed like they had forgotten that they had cancer. It’s a really emotional story, with a terrible disease and two people who both have it. They learn to deal with it together and I think that’s interesting how they cope with their sickness. The story shows a cute, yet sad story and kind of twists it together around having cancer. I really can connect with this story because they are around my age. I think it shows that cancer can be dealt with and once you are diagnosed with it, it doesn’t automatically mean you should give up. I think them being in a support group together really shows how cancer can affect a person and what steps they have to go to in their everyday lives. I especially like how they hang out with Isaac, Augustus’s blind friend. They kind of help him deal with being blind and it kind of shows you from his perspective what it’s like not to be able to see anything. I really enjoyed how John Green narrated the book and kind of made is Hazel Grace’s very own. It kind of shows how a sickness can bring a family closer, like when something bad happens you have to stick together and get through it as a family. I think it shows how their different kinds of cancer can affects people differently and how they don’t always see eye to eye about everything. This book really interests me in how cancer really changes a person's life and it really makes you think about life and how you should cherish it because you never know what could happen. I think this story also shows what a person will go through for someone they love, like Augustus is towards Hazel. A thing I don’t like about this book is how it makes it look like you need a boyfriend/girlfriend to help you get through things. I think it should be more about how you need your family to get through hardships like that. It doesn’t really show how their families are dealing with this hardship. Overall I think he does an amazing job writing the books and twists it all into a sad, yet cute story about how people can see past people’s problems and love them for who they are. Another one of my favorite parts is when they take Isaac to egg the person’s house that made fun of him, I think it was very sweet of them and showed that they really cared. In the book it shows how Hazel Grace tries to keep her distance away from Augustus because she knows that cancer is a dangerous thing and she didn’t want to hurt him. She was trying to keep him safe and help him, but the story ends in a sad emotional twist. ...more "
