Why انتلکت‌نما? "Antelectnama" has negative connotations in our language. Antelectnama people are pretentious, always name-dropping, quoting this and that philosopher, clothing weirdly, asking long, complex, irrelative questions in discussions only to belittle you, etc. But, if Antelectnamas are pretending to be intellectuals, who are "real intellectuals"? What do they do? How are they different from us? Depending on dear Wikipedia(علیه الرحمة), an intellectual is someone engaging in "critical thinking, research, and reflection about the reality of society," and proposing "solutions for the normative problems of society." Given this, I don’t believe there’re "real intellectuals" out there, who haven’t pretended to be intellectuals sometime in their lives. I don’t think that anyone can/could turn into an intellectual person overnight, though it is necessary to be one in this hectic, uncertain, messy world we’ve made and been forced to live in. I’m not encouraging name-dropping or belittling and alienating others; still, I don’t find shame in "pretending" to be one who tends to challenge the status quo. Today, we can at least strive to be intellectual by excessive reading, listening, and watching (radical) materials that broaden our horizons and give us analytical, theoretical, essential tools to disentangle complications in our world. We don’t want to be complicit in the multi-layered intersectional systems of oppression that have besieged us. Our only weaponry to break these sieges is our minds. Here, in this group, we want to foster and polish those analytical and critical skills we don’t get to use in our daily lives. We might not be intellectuals today or tomorrow, but we are working on it rather seriously in this group. Until that day comes, that we can call ourselves "real intellectuals," we pretend to be one by being an "انتلکت‌نما." ...more
