If she heard that any of the boys were sick, she would have them brought over to Surrey House where she herself could nurse and cheer them. Between times she would rouse their love of country to a desire to study its history.
In studying this woman, not just in this book but in others, I was so taken with what we would now call “servant leadership”. It was part of what so endeared her followers to her during the hard days of fighting.
