"I'm really enjoying how well King and Straub play off each other. It doesn't really become jarring to read from their different viewpoints. (I can however, tell Mr King wrote a chapter when they have had seven mental spirals within said chapter)" Jan 10, 2025 01:25PM

“Yare Yare Daze.”
Hirohiko Araki

“The emblem of the city, sir. Two crossed keys. The Holy St.Peter is our patron. These are his keys, you understand... ” Hesitant, eagerly waiting for consent, “...the ones that open the door to heaven. Leiden is also known as the 'City of Keys.' Once in the first row, a dyked village, you know, we won human culture from the untamed nature of the North Sea that spilt up to us in a wildly chaotic manner from the source of the Rhine.”
Bernhard Josef Maul, Mahler in Leiden - A Biographical Novel of Gustav Mahler and Sigmund Freud

Patricia A. McKillip
“She was a sweet, warm wind in my heart, a resting place, a place of peace where I could forget so many things . . .”
Patricia A. McKillip, The Forgotten Beasts of Eld

John Bayley
“One evening, after I had been pottering around her room like a small rodent, Gerda suddenly said in her flat, thick voice, “I want to feel what man be in bed. Come in bed here.” She said this with the same apathy and lack of interest with which she let me flour the pastry dough (my father was partial to pastry) or asked me by gestures to turn the handle while she fed the mincing machine. I received her suggestion in the same spirit. She held back the sheet, gestured me to get in, and followed. She lay on her back, staring at the ceiling; she didn’t look at me or show awareness of my presence. We were a close fit and I was crammed against the wall as if in a game of sardines. I might have been lying beside a big dead fish or reptile, a whale or crocodile.”
John Bayley, Iris and Her Friends: A Memoir of Memory and Desire

“I drank enough beer to spoil Sunday entirely, and to have a long and incoherent argument with Brendon about predestination versus free will, but I never got drunk enough to enjoy myself.”
Danielle Hawkins, The Pretty Delicious Café
