Edward Schillebeeckx
“For 'the human' is a medium of possible divine revelation.”
Edward Schillebeeckx, Jesus in Our Western Culture: Mysticism, Ethics and Politics

Alexander Schmemann
“The Orthodox liturgy begins with the solemn doxology: "Blessed is the Kingdom of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages on ages." From the beginning the destination is announced: the journey is to the Kingdom. This is where we are going- and not symbolically, but really. In the language of the Bible, which is the language of the church, to bless the Kingdom is not simply to acclaim it. It is to declare it to be the goal, the end of all our desires and interests, of our whole life, the supreme and ultimate value of all that exists. To bless is to accept it. This acceptance is expressed in the solemn answer to the doxology: Amen.”
Alexander Schmemann

Sogyal Rinpoche
“What is a great spiritual practitioner? A person who lives always in the presence of his or her own true self, someone who has found and who uses continually the springs and sources of profound inspiration. As the modern English writer Lewis Thompson wrote: 'Christ, supreme poet, lived truth so passionately that every gesture of his, at once pure Act and perfect Symbol, embodies the transcendent.'
To embody the transcendent is why we are here.”
Sogyal Rinpoche, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying

Edward Schillebeeckx
“Although we cannot attain Jesus in his fullness unless at the same time we also take into account his unique relationship with God which has a special nature of its own, this does not of itself mean that Jesus' unique way of life is the only way to God. For even Jesus not only reveals God but also conceals him, since he appeared among us in non-godlike, creaturely humanity. As man he is a historical, contingent being who in no way can represent the full riches of God... unless one denies the reality of his real humanity (and that runs counter to the consensus of the church). So the gospel itself forbids us to speak of a Christian religious imperialism and exclusivism.”
Edward Schillebeeckx, Jesus in Our Western Culture: Mysticism, Ethics and Politics

Edward Schillebeeckx
“Only in a secular history where men and women are freed for unexpected true humanity can God reveal his own being.”
Edward Schillebeeckx, Jesus in Our Western Culture: Mysticism, Ethics and Politics
