"Marlow's journey up the river and his experience with Kurtz and the ivory trade certainly gave me a perfect topic to research. The history behind using rivers to trade is rich in Africa. Again literary history can be pointed out through atitudes of the europeans. The backdrop of such a dangerous desolate land can add to the desparation and. Helplessness of the europeans especially kurtz" — Jan 22, 2012 11:57PM

"I find it ironic that Tayo being the only half breed of his friends truly embodies the culture. He is also the only one that does not go on the destructive path his friends take. It is fulfilling to know that Tayo is finally crossed into the known of his journey and that he is back to "normal." I also finally see the role of Tseh as the goddess that completed Tayo's transition from Atonement to Return." — Mar 18, 2012 11:41PM

"As a class we are nearing the end of this book. The transformation of Eliza is quite entertaining to see progress. The in class movie gives a great visual on the book, yet Shaw provides imagery so vivid the movie is not needed. I can't wait to see how the relationship and resolution of Eliza and Higgins relationship will unfold in part five. I am actually anxious to finish the book in class and watch the movie." — Feb 12, 2012 05:10PM
