"Not the Terry Pratchett I'm used to. I'm still going to finish it but it has to do a heck of a lot better if it wants me to care for the characters or the story." Jan 09, 2016 06:43AM

"Yeah, I'm not feeling it. It probably has to do with the character of Dairy who I'm not at all invested in. Give me some Loch and Pyvic for crying out loud!" Jan 09, 2016 06:42AM

George Lakoff
“People do not necessarily vote in their self-interest. They vote their identity. They vote their values. They vote for who they identify with. They may identify with their self-interest. That can happen. It is not that people never care about their self-interest. But they vote their identity. And if their identity fits their self-interest, they will vote for that. It is important to understand that point.”
George Lakoff, Don't Think of an Elephant! Know Your Values and Frame the Debate: The Essential Guide for Progressives

Roberto Calasso
Roberto Calasso, Come ordinare una biblioteca

Roberto Calasso

Roberto Calasso, Come ordinare una biblioteca

Terry Pratchett
“Tiffany was on the whole quite a truthful person, but it seemed to her that there were times when things didn’t divide easily into ‘true’ and ‘false’, but instead could be ‘things that people needed to know at the moment’ and ‘things that they didn’t need to know at the moment’.”
Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men

“Most of the Navy work on peroxide was not directed towards missiles, but towards what was called "super performance" for fighter planes -an auxiliary rocket propulsion unit that could be brought into play to produce a burst of very high speed- so that when a pilot found six Migs breathing down his neck he could hit the panic button and perform the maneuver known as getting the hell out of here.”
John D. Clark, Ignition!: An informal history of liquid rocket propellants
