Being able to share this book with my friends, business contacts and everyone who has an interest in making work a lot better than most people accept it to be has made that mission easy to live, because if you read this book, you'll do just that. You'll learn so many ways to improve work that are actually really easy to do and very logical.

For me, well, 6 years ago, I started working in the Employee Engagement business. Having previously worked in the Public Sector, employees being the focus of the business was very new to me. Surely, it's the product/service that comes first? Wrong.

Now, I look back and wish I'd had this book to be my handy mentor all along. It's a great guide for business owners, managers, even employees. It's broken down everything I've learnt in 6 years into a book you can easily read within a couple of hours and had ensured I'll never get stuck in a job that doesn't fulfil me.

Being an Internal Communications professional, obviously, the chapter on Open and Honest Communications is an easy favourite. What I didn't expect to have such an interest in was the chapter on Job Design. It's fascinating. And it's even more amazing because once you've read it you'll recognise how terrible we are at designing jobs for people. At the end of the chapter, I'd written a redesign of my own role and shared it with my own boss because I'd learnt so much about how much more I could do in my role if I gave Job design some serious thought. I really hope this chapter, in particular, reaches those about to enter the world of work. So they don't get caught in the trap that work has to be a set of tasks to simply be ticked off every day.

If you don't want to take my word for it, check out the endorsements from Margeret Heffernan (hero!), and Dan Pink (very clever man!). I've really enjoyed reading the book. It's great hearing people say "I've got this great product, and I've got a great team together, but I've got no idea how to get them to trust me and stay with me as I start a company from scratch", or "I've not decided what it is just yet, but I know I want to start my own business I just don't know how", or "Wow, your company sounds awesome how can it work like that?"... and all I have to do is pull this book out of my bag and say "ENJOY!".

Oh, and just one more thing I will say about it. I have a stack of books at home I have to read. I'm quite slow because 'flat' content I find tough to get on with and it will take me a long time to trudge through pages and pages of complex copy. I thought this might be the same, but no. I've whizzed through this book. I'd describe it like this, lots of books are written and delivered in a very 2d experience. The words are flat. It's just the theory. There's no activities or practical. This is very different. A 3d reading experience if you like. Packed with the theory, the practical, the plays and lots of quick links that take you to online learning content and pictures that make the message pop. It's a great book for all active readers and people that like more than just flat theoretical business books. Nice job on bringing the content to life! ...more "
