First off, one of the few positive things about this sequel is its quotes. Take these as examples:

— Laia has one hand on her armlet, fast asleep.
“You are my temple,” I murmer as I kneel beside her. “You are my priest. You are my prayer. You are my release.”

— “Failure doesn’t define you. It’s what you do after you fail that determines whether you are a leader or a waste of perfectly good air.”

— “So long as you fight in the darkness, you stand in the light.”

Now for the plot itself: personally, the book leaned too much into fantasy for my liking.

Elias might be the only character, out of the everlasting characters in this book, that i fully connected with. His backstory was most inspiring, and i loved how he evolved with every chaper, learning more and more about himself in the toughest ways possible.

Although she wasn’t a personal favorite, props to Helene because she basically owned this sequel. Most of the story’s plot happened on her part.

Laia, however, annoyed me in every way possible. She was way too naïve from the start, yet i still saw so much in her and i kept waiting for that one incident that would prove it. Which of course never happened.

Having said so, i still loved the evident chemistry between Laia and Elias, so naturally the love triangle reallyyyy bothered me.

All in all, i’m not eager to complete this series, at least not anytime soon. For the sake of the first book, i would still suggest giving it a try and seeing how it goes for you <3

i don’t know what it is but i couldn’t stop thinking about this series the day ever since i finished this book so i bought the third book and will get around to reading it hopefully soon, so that’s worth noting ?! :D ...more "
