"I just finished the first story by John C. Hocking, author of Conan And The Emerald Lotus and Conan And The Living Plague. Both of those novels are available in one edition called Conan: City Of The Dead, published by Titan Books. The short story in this book was enjoyable and well written. I will dip in and out of this book in between reading other books. I do like my fix of sword and sorcery." Jul 01, 2026 11:43PM

Dan Simmons
“When the last autumn of Dickens's life was over, he continued to work through his final winter and into spring. This is how all of us writers give away the days and years and decades of our lives in exchange for stacks of paper with scratches and squiggles on them. And when Death calls, how many of us would trade all those pages, all that squandered lifetime-worth of painfully achieved scratches and squiggles, for just one more day, one more fully lived and experienced day? And what price would we writers pay for that one extra day spent with those we ignored while we were locked away scratching and squiggling in our arrogant years of solipsistic isolation?

Would we trade all those pages for a single hour? Or all of our books for one real minute?”
Dan Simmons, Drood

Laird Barron
“Ye wanna steer clear o' 'im and 'is little friends. Ye shall come to a nasty end nosin' 'bout that gent."

The Spy knew the refrain. He wondered aloud as to the nature of these little friends.

"Ain't ever seen 'em, just 'eard of 'em. Cripples and deformed ones. Some ain't got no arms or legs is what I 'ear. they crawl along behind 'im, see? Wrigglin' in the dirt all ruddy worm-like."

"He's got an entourage of folk without arms," the Spy said, raising his brows toward the brim of his cocked hat. "Or legs. Following him wherever he goes."

"Some got arms, some don't. Some got legs, some don't. Some got neither. That's what I 'ear." The farmer shrugged, made the sign of warding again, and would say no more on the matter.”
Laird Barron, The Croning

Iain M. Banks
“They speak very well of you".
- "They speak very well of everybody."
- "That so bad?"
- "Yes. It means you can´t trust them.”
Iain M. Banks

Bram Stoker
“Loneliness will sit over our roofs with brooding wings.”
Bram Stoker, Dracula

Dan Simmons
“The shortest route to courage is absolute ignorance.”
Dan Simmons, Endymion
