I'm not through it all, but so far am disappointed. Ms. Rand still tells a compelling story, but as compared to AS, the point is simply not as clear and lacks a main character to sympathize with. Most frustratingly un-rooted in the real world, driven by some unclear internal tension that makes them act in ways that no one I've ever encountered would act.
It is interesting, though, because I know that Ms. Rand has no problem bringing together lots of stray pieces of information and fictional history somewhere near the end. I'm about 3/5ths through at this point. Her prose is as rich as it was in AS and if you simply love good writing, Fountainhead won't disappoint. One warning, I found several of the characters surprisingly devoid of basic morals while appearing to be held up as potential heroes of some kind. Will see how this all plays out.
Ms. Rand also proved very capable of making complex and significant social/political points in AS. I'm anxious to get her point in Fountainhead, but don't have it in sight yet.
