"it's a rubbish book but reading it precisely because it is. Apart from it being a rehashing of Revolusi Mental and the Malay Dilemma which it supposedly is against, it echoes the same rhetoric. to top it off, it is scarcely coherent and has ridiculous amount of basic logical fallacies into the first 5 pages of the book. which says a lot about it. i am just astounded how people can find this 'refreshing'." Iris Murdoch
“Love is the extremely difficult realization that something other than oneself is real.”
Iris Murdoch, Existentialists and Mystics: Writings on Philosophy and Literature

Jane Austen
“In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”
Jane Austen, Pride And Prejudice

C.S. Lewis
“To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

Marcus Aurelius
“Receive without conceit, release without struggle.”
Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

Martin Luther King Jr.
“I have decided to stick to love...Hate is too great a burden to bear.”
Martin Luther King Jr., A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches
