I almost DNF’d…almost. if it weren’t for my goodreads goal i would’ve abandoned this shit at chapter five. quick summary of review: I appreciate and love the movies way more now after reading this self insert. calling this a self insert fanfic is so below the belt bc i’ve read self insert fanfic better than this rolling dumpster fire…I didn’t even bother reading this and only listened to the audiobook. I had to put it in 3x speed once I got to chapter 15 of 24.

listening to James telling Bella he was going to eat her at 3x speed was something I never knew I needed. This book literally reads like an episode script and Bella is the boring MC and every scene of Edward and Bella’s will they won’t they for fifteen chapters was because I didn’t have enough gems to buy the scenes where they stopped being idiots and just communicated normally.

That is the only way I can possibly make sense of this book. Do not mistake me, the movies are amazing oscar worthy chefs kisses life changing and that is solely bc kristen stewart and robert pattinson and sometimes taylor lautner supported this hot dumpster fire on their back and the directors and writers actually made the movie make more sense than the books. how are you gonna spend half the book setting up a romance and not even a well executed slow burn romance. Like Miss Meyer, what was the thought process…it’s like girlie got to chapter 15 and went oh shit i only got nine chapters left time to explain the entirety of vampire lore and to make a conflict to rip the love interests apart but that ends up uniting them and making them stronger.

There is so much info dumped in this book and it’s done so poorly my brain was boiling. the world building is eh..Bella describes things as being green a lot. like she’ll look outside and go “it’s too green” like what am I supposed to do with that… The conflict should’ve been steadily hinted at throughout the book/we should’ve gotten three povs—Edward, Bella’s and the unknown pov of the big bad and it’s like the Bella and Edward’s timelines/pov are interwoven since they’ve met and are doing ish together but the big bads’ timeline/pov is running parallel until bella, edward and the unknown pov intersect and that’s when we meet James, Victoria, and Laurent (The big bads) YOU KNOW HOW THEY DID IT IN THE MOVIE

i wish i could go back in time when stephenie meyer had the dream of a vampire and girl in a meadow and immediately knew she had to start writing it and i wish i could’ve broken her hands…. Now Bella is the blandest bitch in town and honestly I love her for it. She's a character that you relate to because of how much depth she lacks. My girl is like a freaking mirror. she was “i’m not like other girls'' type of girl (even though she really wasn’t like other girls babe had a whole vampire boyfriend who had to fight himself from eating her everyday..who was doing it like her? the answer? no one.)

but the problem i have is that she had no hobbies outside of reading and taking care of her parents and being way too selfless to be normal and honestly her selflessness towards her parents felt more like a trauma response and due to the fact that she is a child of divorce. From what I could gather from the crumbs, she’s kind and likes to read and funny, but that’s mostly due to guessing and having to go back and re-listen to crap 😭. Meyer needed to do herself a favor and after watching the movie rewrite the book in the way it was done by the movie. the movie establishes/hints that there is a big bad towards the beginning of the films and i’m not saying that was amazing but it was better than the dumpster fire hot garbage that was James and the others introduction….

I had to sit through fifteen chapters of Bella and Edward’s “will they won’t they dance before they even got together”…. and when they did get together they immediately told one another they loved each other. 15 chapters of endless drivel and bella obsessing over edward and vice versa until it started to actually kinda pick up. The chapters where Edward was avoiding Bella were so good because it was Bella and her friends and I like her and her life outside of obsessing over Edward. Characters like Jessica, and Jacob lowkey deserved more screen time bc Jessica and her useless gossip was a welcoming distraction from the Bella and Edward show..

I had a visceral reaction every goddamn time they said I love you LIKE Y'ALL HAVEN'T EVEN KNOWN EACH OTHER LONG ENOUGH like this ain’t love THIS IS OBSESSION. The characters are so poorly written and when you see them separately from each other—bella and edward, rosalie and emmett, alice and jasper, and esme and carlisle all you get is a boring new girl, a 110 year old vampire virgin, rosalie, emmett(I have no comments on rosalie and emmett bc they ARE BARLEY IN THE BOOK), a confederate soldier, white that’s so raven, and the vampire version of the time traveler's wife (esme and carlisle bc their back/love story is so odd It felt too much like time traveler's wife but with no time traveling and more of that icky adult having feelings for a child they meet). ...more "
