Am I sensing a possible Tamlin in Dorian? I've never been so torn between the love triangle before. I'm not sure who Im rooting for more. I do really enjoy Celaenas character though, especially that she still embraces girlish things like clothes and looks, which it seems a lot of heroines could care less for.

The difference in Maass writing style is really interesting to compare with ACOTAR. If I didnt no better I'd assume they were written by different people.

It's really obvious that this is her first novel and the standards are not what I've come to expect from Maas. I do see the similarities in how she likes to tell her stories.

I found Choal to be dull as dirt and absolutely obnoxious. Dorian was fun and I enjoyed his character. Celaena is fun and I enjoy a badass character that still enjoys the girlie things in life. Nehemia and C's friendship just felt really surface level, and the "bond" was not really explored. I like Nehemia a lot but it felt very elementary, like "wanna be my best friend?" "Ok". I liked Nox too but then he just disappears into the sunset and we never hear about him again?

Also, I guess I've hit the age where love triangles just hold no interest for me and I felt like Celeana was just leading them both on the entire time.

The premise was there with the competition and everything, but even that was mostly glossed over. Instead of like 13 trails that are barely mentioned I feel like it would have been better to just the 3 or 4 that actually explored.

However, I just find this whole storyline lack luster. Since I know what's coming I mostly just look for foreshadowing. If this had been the first SJM book I had read, I'm not sure I would have continued. ...more "
