Helps you understand Hollis' constant lashing out and need for attention, his almost, undecided fury and distant and unexstinguished rage. He pushes it down, always. Also helps you undertsand the writers choice a bit more in terms of passage of time-->short, concise chapters that are straight to the point. No beating around the bush, no dilly dallying in the language. The writer communicates parts of the story that feel absolutely necessary to communicate and nothing more. The language is poetic at times but doesn't linger too long in thought or prolong anything. Hollis doesn't linger or prolong anything, he doesn't care to waste the time, he was raised to do the opposite.
