Before reading As a copywriter, I get a lot out of this “Building a StoryBrand” book from Donald Miller. This book is suitable for you if you’re a copywriter, business owner, marketer or someone who would like to learn how to tell a compelling story.

Before reading this book, I thought that I knew how to write an engaging copy that catches people’s attention. After reading this book, I realised that my copywriting knowledge was not enough because I still didn't know how to tell a good story that EVERYBODY wants to read from the start to the end.

Writing a story is like writing a screenplay. It's like a CHARACTER who wants something encounters a PROBLEM before they get it. At the peak of their lives, gives them a PLAN, and CALL TO ACTION. That's action helps them avoid FAILURE and ends in SUCCESS.

Yes, I knew all these principles which are similar and essential in copywriting, but I didn't realise how important they are. When I looked back at those blockbusters like AVENGERS, TITANIC, AVATAR or even FROZEN, it all clicked. All plots of blockbusters won't get out of this scope!

Hence, the author created the StoryBrand Framework (SB7) to help people tell a story like blockbuster based on seven principles. Everybody loves a story, and it is one thing that can hold a human being’s attention for hours. By reading this book, you know how to sell by storytelling which has the potential to bring in millions of revenues.

My biggest takeaway is I learned the importance of branding. Probably it's because I'm creating my personal brand, this resonates with me the most. Branding helps to filter out ”noises” and create simple, relevant messages we repeat over and over so that we ”brand” ourselves into the public consciousness.

By the end of the book, the author also shared how to create a StoryBrand website and Email Marketing and touched a little bit of Affiliate Marketing! I felt these are bonuses in this book.

To conclude, I enjoyed reading this book so much because the author is a wonderful storyteller. I got hooked in the beginning when I learned about the deliverables of the book. Those content are applicable in my copywriting and future career. ...more "
