THIS BOOK. If I could give a book infinite stars I would to this book. Now anyone knows me (hi friends & fam) knows that I am a STRICT romance reader, I’ve never really branched out of my comfort zone, like ever, bc once I’m there it takes me a while to come out of it.

So when this book came out just over a year ago, it was EVERYWHERE and I was really intrigued but not being a fantasy girly in the slightest I never thought I would ever get the chance to read it or even push myself that far out of my zone to do it, that it never really crossed my mind until this year. So it got on my radar this year, I wanna say & I was telling all of my friends (the fellow book girlies) that I want this year to be my year where I actually dive into the fantasy genre & enjoy it. I was the girl that went to the cinema to see the dystopian movies, like divergent & the hunger games, the maze runner all of that and I loved the essence of them and the storylines and how they just took you to a whole other world, so why wouldn’t I like the fantasy worlds in books?

So here stems my conversation with my bestie Erin when I went to stay with her a couple of weeks ago. She is a ROMANTASY queen. She said the best place to start with fantasy as a romance queen herself too, was to make sure there is an essence of romance to it, bc it will still feel comfortable but it’s not in your face. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read my Greek Mythology retellings and I will love them always and forever but I’ve never dipped into a storyline I didn’t already know about. Erin has been trying to convince me to read ACOTAR for years, as long as I’ve known her really but when I told her the hype puts me off and I don’t want it to be my first. I had mentioned wanting to read Fourth Wing about 5 times prior to this, and then she told me, that Fourth Wing would actually be a really good place for me to start. 1 week and a bit later. Here I am, with my favourite book of the year and a book that has definitely made it into my top 3 books of all time. This book deserves EVERY. SINGLE. BIT. OF. HYPE.

Violet Sorrengail you are one badass bitch. Dain Aetos you can stay well away from her, you gaslighting snakey little shit. Xaden Riorson you have my heart forever & always, love you forever. Ridoc, Rhiannon, Imogen, Bodhi, Garrick, Sawyer, Liam *cries* The best gang ever I can’t deal. 🥹🥹🥹

When we first met Violet, I thought she was gonna annoy the shit out of me, I thought she was gonna be a really naive character and I would end up disliking her, but it was the way, people coddled her that made me more annoyed and I was like just let her be, she’s a grown woman. Xaden knew how to treat her right… I’m just saying. Seeing her character grow from what people often viewed her as, to the strongest badass bitch character I’ve ever read by the end. I just wanted to be her little cheerleader throughout the whole book. The Gauntlet, I was so proud oh my god.

When she bonded with her dragons, THE GASP that came out of my mouth when Tairn shows up and then Andarna I WANT TO PROTECT HER WITH MY LIFE OMG. I was obsessed.

The sense of community between Violet & her friends, was something that really made parts of the book so memorable. (Dain you are not included)

The ending of the book, actually broke my heart but also healed it at the same time. I got attached to characters so quickly and then when they go in an instant it’s like your brain doesn’t have a minute to catch up because there is always something else happening. I had an inkling about what was gonna happen to one of the characters and to my dismay I didn’t wanna be right but I was and I think it was partly Erin’s fault (sorry Erin) because she kept asking me questions about this one character (purely because they are a firm favourite) but the more I was asked and aware of them the more my inkling grew.

HOWEVER. I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT LAST PAGE IN THE SLIGHTEST! AT ALL !!!! THE GASP THAT CAME OUT OF MY MOUTH.

Erin thought I had grasped onto the ending due to the events that had taken place, but I kid you not I was in complete and utter state of shock !!!

Now I need to read Iron Flame, because how she ended that first book is just not ok. Now as a first time fantasy / romantasy girlie, I want to thank the universe of Fourth Wing for being my first experience bc it will be one of my favourite books of all time, one I will reread and go back to 100% I know that Iron Flame is supposed to be a lot more world building and history involved so as nervous as I am… I am sooo excited!!! 🐉🖤✨ ...more "
