Innovation must happen within a context - an end in mind that is set by the leaders, though they may not know how to get there yet. Innovation is a nonsensical concept if there is no intended result or destination. A useful, novel, better way to get nowhere still gets you nowhere. Define the desired end result, help to identify problems in getting there, then autonomous and enable your people to innovate ways of surmounting those problems. Your team or your business will not randomly accomplish "moonshots" if you don't define what they ought to look like.
