It’s about a girl named Tris Prior who lives in a world that’s more advanced and in the future. Where the people are divided into five factions that represent what kind of person they are .Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the kind), Erudite (the intelligent), Abnegation (the selfless), and Candor (the honest). As they get ot a certain age when older they must pick one to commit to for the rest of their life. Tris chose Dauntless and she has to prove that she is brave my going through these different steps like fighting other people who have recently joined their faction like her. She soon discovers from this test that sees how many fears you have that she’s divergent and that means she will never be able to fit into just ONE faction. Tris must keep her divergency a secret. Though Tris uncovers a secret war that threatens all of society.
I think the setting really does affect the characters big time. When Tris is forced to pick only one faction it’s hard to make her decision because she was divergent. Like for example in the book when she was picking her faction, she was hesitant on picking abnegation and dauntless but she was to only pick one because world/society told her only one choice. It’s also pretty much the same for plot because it’s what’s the big problem in the book, the problem is Divergents, society makes their life harder by having them not have more than one faction.Tris as a divergent it DOES make her life more complicated for having to keep divergency a secret. She explains that she was struggling but she got help to keep it quiet. She isn’t the only one who’s divergent but she kinda interferes with tests they take to find out what faction best fits them because she has multiple and it kinda messes up the whole system which they will kill anyone who is capable of doing so. Only people who can are divergent. I think the author wanted people to like compair her book to the real world that we live in and to how in the book they live and how their lifestyles may be different. like when she only had one choice got me thinking to the real word and how in this world you have so many choices to pick from but you have to do what makes you happy, and in their world how many choices they have that may or may not make them happy. It affected how I thought and read the book a lot.
I really liked this book because I really like futuristic kind of books and I liked the whole plot of the story. It got me kinda hooked on what was Tris’s next move in her problems that kept coming her way. I really didn’t like that they really didn’t explain much of some of the other characters thoughts and feelings. The author told most of the actions of what some of the characters did from Tris’s point of view but you got like their reaction just not in the most detailed way. The book i'd say wasn't confusing I think if you understand more of the events of what’s going on you probably would not be confused. This book is a really easy book to read it’s more of understanding concepts in the book than anything. The book did make me predict on what I thought was going to happen. Also everything in the book is pretty realistic and believable because they have conflicts real people may have. Like when Tris has to fight to prove shes good enough to be respected. I really liked the ending a lot because every turned out good and everyone finally found out who the real enemies were. I think my favorite part of the book was when Tris is ranked first from all the other initiates for the highest test score. This book made a really good connection with my life like when Tris was struggling to make her decision with the fractions it kinda related to me like I had to pick between two hockey teams but I followed my heart like Tris and made a good decision. The author’s style of writing is in a limited perspective like it’s all from Tris’s point of view to like keep the suspense better. For example when Tris goes and visits her brother he tells her something suspicious is going on in his faction. The author could have switched perspectives to Caleb but it would have given the whole thing away and that would have limited that suspense everyone craves. I would highly recommend this book if you love science fiction. For sure one of my new favorites! ...more "
