Like, I remembered the big plot points, but I had forgotten a lot about the side characters, some of the cool scenes and Buckyyyy ! (Btw : I have a theory about Bucky and Blood Heir, I mean... they have to be related right ?). Also : am I the only one who pictured Bucky as the Tangled horse ? With all his attitude and prancing ? Anyway, Bucky is the best and I love him and Hugh ! Cedric and Hugh are the cutest too ! The Andrews never disappoint with the animals !

You get it : this book is a lot of fun, Hugh and Elara banter and chemistry is awesome, I also loved the banter between Hugh and his centurions ! It was nice to have some cameos from some Pack members (I won't tell you who but you can look forward to it !).
But it wasn't all fun : it actually begins on a pretty dark note, I mean Roland is charming and half of the time when he's trying to be a father to Kate I almost forget but yeah... at the end of the day he is horrible and it's never more obvious that with what he did to Hugh... (okay... him trying to kill Baby B was up there too we agree !). Hugh's journey in this book is great, and in the entire series really ! I mean he was a great villain, the type you love to hate, so making him the hero of a series was not an easy task but of course Ilona Andrews pulled it off ! And don't worry, it's not a 180 that doesn't make sense and feels like it's not the same character. He's still a bastard, but a bastard with remorse now and all is explained and makes sense.

There's also a lot to look forward too for the rest of the series : mainly Elara's powers and past which we just get a glimpse of. But also Hugh's, it was pretty clear on this re-read that there is more to him than we and he know !

Also : if some of you reading the KD series for the first time are wondering : yes you should absolutely read this book between book 9 and 10 ! I didn't the first time around and quickly realized that I should have because the plot of book 10 is directly related to this one ! (You won't be completly lost if you don't read it, but it's really better if you do, it's different than with the other side novellas in my opinion. Plus it's great so read it !) ...more "
