“لأني أحبّك (يجرحني الماء)
والطرقات إلى البحر تجرحني
والفراشة تجرحني
وأذان النهار على ضوء زنديك يجرحني
يا حبيبي، أناديك طيلة نومي، أخاف انتباه الكلام
أخاف انتباه الكلام إلى نحلة بين فخذيّ تبكي
لأني أحبّك يجرحني الظلّ تحت المصابيح، يجرحني
طائرٌ في السماء البعيدة، عطر البنفسج يجرحني
أوّل البحر يجرحني
آخر البحر يجرحني
ليتني لا أحبّك
يا ليتني لا أحبّ
ليشفى الرخام
يطير الحمام
يحطّ الحمام .”

“أرى كلّ معشوقينِ، غيري وغيرَها
يَلَذّانِ في الدّنْيا ويَغْتَبِطَانِ
وأمشي ، وتمشي في البلادِ
كأننا أسِيران، للأعداءِ، مُرتَهَنانِ
أصلي، فأبكي في الصلاة ِ لذكرها
ليَ الويلُ ممّا يكتبُ الملكانِ
ضَمِنْتُ لها أنْ لا أهيمَ بغيرِهَا
وقد وثقتْ مني بغيرِ ضمانِ
ألا، يا عبادَ الله، قوموا لتسمعوا
خصومة َ معشوقينِ يختصمانِ
وفي كل عامٍ يستجدانِ، مرة ً
عتابًا وهجرًا، ثمّ يصطلحانِ
يعيشانِ في الدّنْيا غَريبَينِ، أينما
أقاما، وفي الأعوامِ يلتقيانِ

chest as I hugged your shadow, would perhaps not bend to the shape of your body.
For faced with the real form of what has haunted me and governed me for so many
days and years, I would surely become a shadow.”
