I've always enjoyed a good story about immortality but its always the same concept. The individual can never die. They live forever. Unless there is some type of wea "The world is ending, as it always must. But the end of the world is getting faster."

I've always enjoyed a good story about immortality but its always the same concept. The individual can never die. They live forever. Unless there is some type of weakness you can exploit. For instance....cutting the head off, a stake through the heart or a ritualistic sealing of some sort...you get where I'm going. But in the case of The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August...you die and then you start your entire life all over again. Basically it's the movie Groundhog Day on steroids.

Now I actually enjoyed the concept alot. So much so I found myself randomly discussing the book with several people. I would always ask the same question....What would you do if you could live your life over and over again? You would be given the same exact life with the ability to change it. You will always die the same. You will always die at the exact same age but when you die you will start over from the beginning...the day you were born with the knowledge of all your previous lives.

So let's just touch on some things. This book made my inner geek scream with joy. The huge info dumps left me with so much knowledge but at times it was alot to chew on but necessary. I feel because this is a story that has so many timelines the author could had did the reader a courtesy and marked each chapter with some type of stamp to indicate what life was taking place. Because at one point (the middle of the story) I became extremely lost. So I honestly feel some structure was needed to make this a more palpable read.

I struggled for a bit about how I would rate this. I noticed the second half of this book was amazing and if V.E Schwab was given this concept....my god it would have been orgasmic. Harry and Vincent are dead ringers for Eli and Victor. I dont know if that was done on purpose but it was done with such finesse. I wanted to give this 4 stars but took off a ½⭐ a star to make it 3.5⭐'s because of the various plot holes that literally drove me bananas...2 in total and the pacing. It was absolute madness that the story out of no where just picked up and took off with out notice. I thought the book could have used a bit more editing but the concept for me was lovely.

***Actually after thinking about it and constantly recommending it...this is a 4.5 ⭐️ read. This will be a re read for sure.*** ...more "
