bored and baffled
maybe would be better in print or maybe just with a more engaging narrator
but at this point i’m not sure about that
would be dropping this were it not for the fact that i want to do a reading challenge
why did i put this on my tbr!!!!!!!

This book is almost a hundred years older than it feels at times. There's something very old and creepy and mystical about. It's reminding me of a lot of other fairy stories I've read (including 1Q84), but it also reminds me of Steinbeck and Garcia-Marquez. Timmy Willy has to be the most unfortunate name for a female character, haha, but I do love a lot of the other names: Daily Alice Drinkwater, Smoky Barnable etc.

“He grew certain that it could only mean the End of the World. He waited for the still night to break apart in apocalypse, all the while knowing in his heart that it would not… That night he dreamt of Heaven: it was a dark amusement park, small and joyless, just an iron Ferris wheel turning in eternity and a glum arcade to amuse the faithful. He awoke relieved, and never after believed his prayers.”
