'...the artist has little sympathy for arguments about art that don't concern what is good, what is well done. The artist knows all too clearly what dull embarrassments can be made of mere political convention or displays of virtue.'

Art is most properly useful when it doesn't know exactly what it is about. It is most real when it is merely following its nose. That the artistic imagination must do its work formally, through invention, and not through self-certain didacticism, or "meaning," is art's way of confessing that it doesn't quite know what it means but that it is willing to assert its claim on the future anyway.

Literature has the power both to critique and recuperate, to "think change".

As William Carlos Williams wrote in Kora in Hell,
There is nothing sacred about literature, it is damned from one end to the other. There is nothing in literature but change and change is mockery. I'll write whatever I damn please and as I damn please and it'll be good if the authentic spirit of change is on it.

Why we probably shouldn't sub-out the machine learning for the military's autonomic drone program to Hollywood:

Guns don't kill; people do. Hit first, ask questions later. Make my day. Do you feel lucky, punk? Hasta la vista, baby. I love the smell of napalm. I'm not going to hit you. Like hell I'm not.

[w/ Hegel] one does not begin philosophy with a definite notion of method. One begins by beginning. My models...are books without method ..., that are not sure what they think, but think passionately &purposefully nonetheless against the administered world of the "automatic"... which yearn for what [they] can't adequately express, and offer us as consolation the exemplary art of [their] own critical activities.
