5 Stars - Emony "Old Souls" by Michael Jan Friedman
- I don't know why I was so emotional (tears flowing down my face by the end of the short story), but I was. The author tapped into something that I really loved. It was as if I was that young 18 yr old young man....and I associated with the story (with my knowledge of Trills, and my life of watching Star Trek TV series, and reading all the novels that I've read.

4.5 Stars - Tobin "Dead Man's Hands" by Jeffery Lang
- it took a bit for me to get a handle on the narrative with Tobin Dax and Skon. I'm not sure of the progression of hosts, but I feel that Lela was first, then Tobin. By the end of the narrative, I feel that this is correct.
The story told, shows how early in the time-period of the Federation...and era Tobin is living in.

4.25 Stars - Lela "First Steps" by Kristine Kathryn Rusch
- what I loved about this story, was that the title of the story, set the tone for what was about to happen. When WE make our "first steps" in ANYTHING, we usually fail. In that failure, we then do our best (hopefully) to do better the next time. This story shows the first host of the Dax symbiot, and her courage and bravery to look outside the box.

4 Stars - "Second star to the right..." by Judith & Garfield Reeves-Stevens
- the origin of Ezri Tigan's experience with the Dax symbiot. I cannot remember how much of THIS story was related in the DS9 episode/last season, but I did know that she was not ready, nor wanting to ever be joined. SO, this short story was sad and scary to think..."what if that was me, what would I think?"

Varying quality so far, but interesting to see the past lives of Dax explored more.
