"This picture showed a lady in a fur hat and fur boa who sat erect, holding out to the viewer a heavy fur muff in which her entire forearm had vanished." ~ (In my book, it's page 22).

What's the significance with the word fur? It comes up several times within this segment. This women isn't attractive... instead she is a symbol of warmth and protection, with all her fur.
