The opening of the book took a dark turn when the main character found out his parents were killed. You can tell the antagonist was going to be a huge threat throughout the book when mandy told lance " 'You have less of a chance of hurting her than you'd have to knock the moon out of its orbit by throwing stones at it,' "(Carroll 26).

We meet a lot of new characters in the first chapter. By context, they sound a lot like teenagers in the way they are talking to their parents or mentors.

Lance was held up in a prison for over three months. Roz says they kept him to "set him up with a new identity, a whole new past" to keep him safe from danger (Carroll 12).

Lance must have quite a bit of experience around superhumans because when paragon said," if I wouldn't have done this, then she'd never come after my family," (Carroll 8). it seemed to have triggered something because he knew exactly who he was talking about.

In the first couple of pages of the prologue, I'm noticing how it's turning into an origin story of the main character or antagonist of the story. When Paragon and Lance got back to lances house all the windows are blown out. Lances parents were dead. It was revealed when the author wrote,"Lance starred at the stretcher as the paramedics loaded them in the back of their abmbulence," (Carrol 5).

This book caught my eye because on the back one of the reviews says , "should easily appeal to fans of the X-men and Justice league," (Publishers weekly).
