Status Updates From In the Darkness

Un-fucking-believable! Now Evin is having HET sex?! Did a different author write the second half of this sorry story? I am SHOCKINGLY disappointed!

WAH! It's like an entirely different story has been introduced for the last ten or so percent.

I think the problem lies on the POV. I'm no longer in Gareth's or Evin's POV; rather, I'm abruptly dumped into a servant's, a queen's, and a sorcerer's point of view. The hell? Go away!

Hmm. The crazy-sharp left turn the story is taking is losing my interest. I don't care about previously unknown and undeveloped queens and servants and cruel demon hunters.

Holy fuck! What the hellish hell just happened?! The demon within has a-fucking-rrived.

Hmm, the way this culture (or these boys) seem to view sex as a pleasurable activity to be shared with anyone they are friends with or as a means to get something else is hard for me to like. I want the act itself to be a deeply trusting one, meaningful and special between only two people. But the characters are so compelling I'm driven to read on.

Evin has an impressive emotional quotient. He's insightful as to why the village boys desire him, use him, and hate him at the same. And he can separate it from his self-worth and identity. He knows it's their issue.

There's a curious child-like aspect to their intimacy, but the acts they do are extremely sexual: intense, deeply connecting. Adult-child Gareth... he's not being taken advantage of--in fact, he's getting what he has long needed--but I still find myself strangely... guilty? secretive? at being happy/aroused at their physical intimacy. A reflection of the stiff, generalized view society clings to about sex and youth?

I'm still trying to pin my feelings about the relationship dynamic between Evin and Gareth....

Is it warm in this room? I feel decidedly hot. I think I must self-immolate... some more! *flips back to reread night-cliff scene before pressing forward with story* (I'm like a cow, chewing my cud... cuz it's so fuckin' delicious. Lol. Gross metaphor, but yanno, it's all bodily and internal fluids like--just like that scene....)

I don't like how Evin uses his body to calm/appease/distract Tyber shortly after using it to gently comfort Gareth, but then again, I understand why he does it--it's the most powerful tool he has. And he knows the difference in the touches. But would Gareth, if Gareth saw him with Tyber? Would it cheapen the closeness Gareth may be developing with Evin?

A couple of great quotes in the last two chapters: Gareth--“I look like a sinner’s soul, Mother says, like a monster. I’m disgusting and I’m green. Green all over, like rotten." Evin--"Maybe all real demons start crying whenever someone calls ’em good."

Hmm, the dynamic of big, beast-like, emotion-driven yet innocent and pure-hearted boy paired with smaller, worldy-wise, and understanding boy appeals to me.

*hovering fingers don't even know where to start: an exclamation may work best* GRIPPING! The scene i just read? Gripping. Gareth discovers the sensations of his body: through arousal to ejaculation and afterglow: it is amazingly sexy, beautifully innocent, and... stunningly sorrowful. Guilt, self-disgust, fear and misunderstanding mix with pleasure and excited discovery.

The introduction of Evin's POV was a bit jarring after being so intensely placed in Gareth's POV, but it was a short diversion, so I can live with it. I expect his POV will return. Maybe I'll like it better after more story development. Evin must have a reason for going along with T's use of him. Is it just the chance of physical pleasure? Seems kinda immature and shallow. Hopefully he'll mature.

WAH! Rip my heart out in only a few pages! Love it! What a dramatic, wrenching beginning! Pitiful Gareth. Thinking of himself as a ghost, being treated so harshly, so inhumanly by his parents, loathed and humiliated, kept on the outside, only able to look from afar. And yet so full of curiousity, innocence, light and joy (the doll play scene!) despite his inevitable shaky self-esteem.

So far closer to 3 than 2 stars. Porn-With--Ridiculous--Plot.

This is just annoying. Gareth is so much strong and he keeps taking hits from that idiot.

Okay, am I the only one who had the thought that Gareth needed to say "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." *grin* (No, not really, but it did strike me as funny.)
