The Circassian language is of the NW Caucasian language family which includes Abkhaz-Abaza and the extinct bridge language Ubykh. Circassian is divided into two dialects, Eastern (Kabardey, Besleney) and Western (Abzakh, Bzedugh, Shapsug, etc.). These are further divided into sub dialects based on locality/towns in both homeland and diaspora. In standard Kabardian and Adigean, there are 57 and 50 letters respectively

"Weapons had had a great bearing on the martial societies of the North Caucasus as far back as the early Bronze Age. They also made up a substantive portion of the export trade, being much sought after by neighbouring peoples and even in as faraway lands as Persia...All North Caucasians held their personal arms in the highest esteem and always maintained them in tip-top shape." pg 213

Customs and social norms were enshrined in the orally transmitted rigid and complex code of the 'Adige Xabze'—'Circassian Etiquette'. This system of morals had evolved to ensure that strict militaristic discipline was maintained at all times to defend the country against the many invaders who coveted Circassian lands...The Xabze served as the law for ad hoc courts and councils set up to resolve contentious cases

Most Circassian refugees, half a million or so, found a new home in Turkey proper. In Asia Minor, they were resettled in regions where the government had only limited authority, where Muslims formed a minority, or where unrest had broken our...This settlement policy ensured that the new martial settlers were dispersed throughout the Empire, thus minimizing threat to the state from ambitious chieftains. pg 102

"About 300 escapees evaded capture and emigrated to the United States. One of these, Karim Shwabziqw, who was instrumental in transferring a group of Circassians to safety, was accused of collaborating with the Nazis and was assassinated at his home in Paterson in the late 1970s." - pg 77

It was allegedly the JDL who did it:

The Khan elected not to wage war against the Circassians; instead he challenged one of their braves to a duel with his top wrestler, Qaisin. The Circassians picked up the gauntlet and chose a female commoner, Lashin, to do battle with the Mongol gladiator...she managed to prevail upon her foe within the hour. To rub salt on the wound, the Circassians...dared Kitai to try again, this time against one of their real men

Archaeological finds give credence to the theory that all NW Caucasian peoples, such as the Maeots, Sinds, Kerkets, Toretians, Heniokhs, were ethnically and linguistically related and that they were the ancestors of the Circassians and Abkhazians. - pg 45

Language and culture in a Circassian context are intimately intertwined, the former and its peculiar modes of expression serving as keys to unlock the treasure house of ancient lore. The diminution of status that Circassian had been witnessing, starting from the middle decades of the 19th century, reached a dangerous level in the early 1990s. - pg 17

Circassians have been known throughout history. First referral to them goes back to the first millennium BC. Civilizations attributable to people ancestral to the Circassians can be traced back to the third millennium BC. The Circassians belong to a stock that had been more widespread, but the cradle of the nation is most probably the area that has become associated with them, the Northwest (NW) Caucasus. - pg 11
