Again with this "you have a choice, you just have to say something" - she did, you didn't remind her of the option to back out. They dismissed any of her stated wishes and protests to their actions but afterwards she's supposed to know that she had an out that was not present in the moment. I'm so over their BS. first backdoor experience and she was essentially told to take it because there wasn't another choice.

It feels icky. It feels like abusive parenting. She's punished without feeling like she can express her autonomy until it's too late. She's spanked without a discussion of why she didn't follow directions. It feels infantilizing where her statements of being an adult and able to make choices is brushed off, as if the men always know better. Just ew.

I'm conflicted. The signs of abuse are a little too close to parenting practices I was exposed to while growing up. It's hard to see her 'behaving' as progress when I know the lasting effects it has on the mind. The overbearing dominance flirts with abuse cycles, punishments, lack of choice and autonomy, no boundaries for her, and they seem to make new ones arbitrarily without prior discussions. Okay I don’t like that they are slut shaming her. I thought it was just possessiveness but saying shit like she doesn’t “respect herself” because she enjoys casual sex is not cool. Granted, she wasn’t being as careful as she should have been, but it’s not the casual sex that means she doesn’t take care of herself. Hypocrites.

I love that the book starts with a casual hookup and a woman feeling no doubts or regrets about it. “Women like to fuck too.”
