Apparently the western coastline of Greenland moves eastward, hence settlements there were labeled the “Eastern Settlements”. Which which caused quite a bit of consternation for would be plunderers when they’d show up on the east coast of Greenland and wonder where everything was

“In 1739, the Danes fought four Dutch ships at Disko Bay over rights to fish in these waters. Three Danish galiots defeated a four ship Dutch flotilla. The struggle lasted about an hour before the Dutch surrendered. This was the first and only naval battle fought over the rights to Greenland”
