Status Updates From Ink

I still don't know if I like this book...

I read a lot of gay literary (literary gay?) fiction, but this is my first MM novel. Rather than busting my cherry though, this is just giving me indigestion. Straight women writing gay porn for straight women? Eish, it's a mad, bad, sad world out there.

So I'm almost 2/3 through Ink and I must say I'm really liking it so far. Not 'twilighty', not YA, but an interesting twist. Not wanting to spoil so let's just say that 'green eyes' just joined the mix.

This is incredibly slow. Not awful, just... so slow. I'm half tempted to stop reading and pick up something else, because despite how well written it is and how interested the blurb sounded, the pace is doing my head in.

If Edmund White had written this: Michael would have had an affair with Abby, lusted secretly after her boyfriend Scott, and then fucked Dominic noisily on the side. None of this pining-after-a-melancholic vampire bullshit.

yessss, let us trust the evil dude, 'cause there is no way that could go wrong.

this story has an interesting daydream feel to it, like i am floating thru the story. not sure if it is good or bad, but it is certainly interesting.

(and bonus points for the whole "make me a vampire" "you don't want to be a vampire" "yes i do" "ok, then" zero-angst conversion conversation. That has to be a first.)

I love how quickly it's just gone from hey you're a vampire I wanna be a vampire!!! to okay I'll make u a vampire LET'S FUCKIN GO yes A+

It's going to be an all-nighter...

Instant gratification isn't always a bad thing; but there is also too much, too soon. Too much love, too much angst, too much 'I'm going to die without you,' declarations & I've barely made it into 1/4 of the book. Sigh. I'm seriously considering dnf-ing this one & returning my first book. Shame too because I actually like what it's trying to be, but it's failing miserably.

I don't know how I feel about this one yet. In a way, it's almost sweet, but fairly annoying at the same time. :/

This book is a little bit like the gay version of Twilight… only without the werewolves and the glittering. ;)
