The word "teenager" wasn't used until the 1940s!! It's use in this book is annoying me to no end.

Our poor put-upon heroine even made the headlines:

Her chest tightened over her heart. It became unbearable to breathe. She clutched her hand over her mouth so as to not make a sound.

And Sarah knew—knew as surely as she did her sisters’ names, or the color of her own eyes—that Jason, her fiancé, felt something deep and raw for the small woman who had slipped past her just a moment ago. In a few bare minutes, Winnifred Crane had provoked strong feelings in Jason … stronger, Sarah realized, than she likely ever could.

I'm not yet convinced that heroine isn't really a moo, but this is the price I pay for starting off the New Year with a bit of HR fluff.

"It was not the first time in recent history that Jack questioned his own intelligence. But it was perhaps, the strongest example of his newfound ability to get in over his head." I love Jack's self-deprecating humor!

Loved Sarah in the Prologue, kind of hate her now. Jack, do your thing and bring her back to her former self ASAP!

i think this is a cute story so far, but i am finding the overlapping narratives to be a mite tedious at times.

I can't seem to figure out why Jack cares so much about fixing Sarah. I haven't seen a reason to explain his mindset yet. Given that I'm missing that huge chunk of foundation, it's hard to be amused by any shenanigans he gets up to in service of breaking her out of her shell. I'm bored right now. :(

I understand that the heroine felt like she was drowning in pity as The Girl Who Lost a Duke, but that doesn't mean she had to turn into such a fake, hateful creature. It would be great if I could successfully find something to like about her.

The heroine of this book was the jilted fiancé in Follow My Lead, which I loved. How odd to flip things and now be expected to empathize with the heroine's upset over the broken engagement. It feels a little weird since I was so into Winn and Jason.
