The characters don't react to plants that leap around and attack them the way they should. They are waaayyy too calm.

Mrmphmm. Well, it was free on Amazon and much as Rent Girl is quality stuff, it is really also very quite depressing, so yeah... Had I read any of the fairly consistent reviews on here, I would have known that Shadowbloom has a swell premise but suffers from flat characterizations and stilted dialogue. Opinions are split on how much this detracts from the quality, but seriously? This is probably not worth finishing.

This book was just "ok" for me. Would be good for middle grade, I think. The characters just weren't that likable to me (typical tomboy angry older sister, nerdy quiet younger brother) the story line was ok. I just felt like I'd read it a thousand times in a thousand other books. Take the other stories and replace bad fairies with "plants", and you've got the idea.

ok so far. Not as entertaining or exciting as 13 Curses or Spiderwick - but I think middle grade readers would probably like it. It's kind of "dry" to me. Would have benefited from a good proofread pass or two for typos before being released.

From what I've read so far, this is going to be great. (I hope!)
