This is turning out to be one of those books you need to set aside big blocks of time for reading, because there's so much to absorb, you can't do it in 10-minute bites when you have a break.
Lovely language.
Great world-building.

I got this book in a big basket of books by a group of authors, and I'm ashamed to say all of them have been buried in my to-be-read bookcase for a couple years.

Dove into the book a couple days ago, and I'm delighted. Just wish I had MORE time to read.

The world-building is amazing. I need to read slowly, to savor and learn.

Part 1: Summons
Shae is taken to visit a dying queen and learns secrets about her past. Shae also has waking nightmares and her maidenly looks make the boys go crazy.

Part 2: Journey
Shae sleeps, misses home comforts, and the group is attacked by physical assailants and spiritual ones.

This is taking way too long to read!

I have no idea what time period this is in. Weird language, unknown words and references.... a little confusing when the POV Shae goes from reality to dreams or visions or whatever without transition. I feel like I’m missing something.

Okay I can't deal with the sadness. Poor Shae. I love that Kai & Elcon are all for protecting her. Freaer is a twisted man. He irks me!!! Madness I tell you. Yay for Shae reaching her inner being and manifesting the light to fight against Freaer!!!

Slow reader… Janalyn is a wonderful writer who has a wonderful way with words. Be ready to put your brain in action! This book is definitely a challenge. I am in the middle of my second children's fantasy history book; finding this book very much a challenge! Janalyn grew up reading the dictionary… believe it or not! Maybe if I had picked up that 'never-ending' journal of words I too could be as good as she!
