Axe man in the woods is so sweet 🥺 At least it feels like the story is finally moving now.

It is a strange description that everything is 'brown'. What does that mean? Evergreen and brown communicate two very different climates. I keep thinking there has to be a drought or it's summer? What is 'brown'? It's all so vague.

I'm 31 pages in and still feel like I'm reading the author's character notes and not the story. Why is every chapter starting with the character just being bored and saying "What do I do?" "I don't know what to do?" "Man, I wish I had something to do" - This is boring to read. You could convey the exact same listlessness and agitation with rural stagnation and the tension between your siblings in one page.

This book is a perfect example of the cost of showing everything and telling absolutely nothing. I have no idea what's going on. It's like the author is in on it and won't tell me any context. It's not slow revealing or explorative the way mystery or fantasy should slowly unviel. It's as if I'm reading a first draft. No nuance and context. It doesn't really read like a novel. It's odd.

If I read one more sentence about their being 'nothing to do'....(You could start the story...that would be something to do.)

Such an odd first chapter. I feel like nothing is properly explained and I don't understand any of the characters or motivations. It reads very oddly though I'm trying to appreciate what the author is creating.
