Excellent book that goes into great detail re the reign of one of the most underrated emperors. Really enjoyed it: goes into a lot of the peripheral goings-on in the empire as well as: his explanation of religion in the ancient world was excellent. And he explains Diocletian's response to monetary inflation as well as anyone has (really hard to visualize how this worked, though!). Recommended.

I can’t believe it, I’m reading about Roman fiscal and economic reforms and I’m actually liking it. Have I gone too far?

I’m always down for a sacking of the Persian capital, Ctesiphon. Nice going, Galerius!

Imagine becoming emperor as a former slave! (Or possibly with a father as a former slave) Really such a cool time period and Diocletian is such an interesting character!
