I am SO GLAD that Marvin, Mendel, and Whizzer saying "Whack!" when Marvin hits Trina got cut, that totally undermines the emotional impact of the scene imo
Also poor Trina, Act 1 Marvin really is the worst :(

"like domestic bumper cars" is an "exit stage left, pursued by bear" level stage direction in my humble opinion

Can't remember if Trina dressing like Mendel in Trina's Song (Reprise) was in the pro-shot I watched or not but damn that's a nice touch

Ok but the revival changing Whizzer's line from "asses bared, such delight" to "asses bared, my delight" to more directly reflect Trina's fear that Whizzer will "turn" Mendel and Jason gay the way she sees him as having "turned" Marvin as well as her view of Whizzer as incredibly sexual (in a way straight people usually perceive gay men) + assigning him malice almost...this show's writing really is on another level.

Oh my GOD the FREUD PORTRAIT being brought in during the "why dont'cha feel alright for the rest of your life?" part really IS peak comedy (and then Falsettoland rips your soul out of your body and leaves you a sobbing mess)

This man needs his license revoked but oh God this scene really is the funniest scene in the bootleg, I'm picturing it just reading this

"I think she's holding it so tenderly I'll probably faint" Mendel she's shaking your hand...see I was not lying when I said he was relatable! From one short insomniac to other, the Yearning is a mood.

I've had I'm Breaking Down in multiple playlists for a year at this point; how am I only now realizing the line is "I think I like his shrink" and not "I think I'd like a shrink"?

What do you MEAN "this isn't my first bris! jUsT tHe tIp!" isn't in the original show-

Oh wow a whole chunk of I'm Breaking Down was rewritten for the 2016 revival and tbh yeah, the revival lyrics are better

It's the way Stephanie J. Block sings "and still the bastard divorced me!" for me!

"Don't ask me questions, I'm frightened of questions-" Mendel once again being A Mood

I have to say that a lot of what I love about the show is the music as opposed to the lyrics...on the plus side, while I'm reading the script, the soundtrack pretty much serves as an audiobook since the show is sung-through

Jason only seeing the psychiatrist after Whizzer recommends it to him OUCH my HEART I love this dysfunctional tight-knit family

"What a mess this is, this family/experts can see this is so. Photographs can't capture our magic/we're simply tragic" is one of my favorite lines in the show

Yes Mendel is an absolutely horrible psychiatrist and should have his license revoked and yes Mendel is my favorite character in the show, these two things can and do coexist

Oh....the jokes about Marvin lying to Trina about having hepatitis (hepatitis hepatitis-) and syphilis to get out of having sex with her hit different when you know how the show ends....

I love this show because it has heartwrenching songs like The Games I Play, You Gotta Die Sometime, and Unlikely Lovers, but also has lyrics like "I love my tight-knit family/I love the way that they cook linguine"

Take a shot every time they say "bitch" (please don't as you will die)

You know it's a good show when you're called out twice in the first song-
"We are manipulating people and we need to know our worst sides aren't ignored" and "I'm neurotic, he's neurotic, they're neurotic, we're neurotic" both hit very home for me

Ooh it's interesting that they don't start Four Jews In a Room Bitching in the period costumes like they do in the revival and that Trina brings them out after her "slavery, slavery" line
