Status Updates From Ciudad muerta

(only doing these updates till my journal i ordered arrives) love when a book changes my mind. the violence is not meant to shock- it is a byproduct, a transaction, but not clinical. there is a lot of interesting emotional incongruity hinted at by these hypermasculine mafiosos who must not mourn their lives, nor the lives they take.

sometimes, it is hard to tell if the violence is intentionally absurd to demonstrate how wayward and desensitized this fictional world is, thus a caricature of real crime… or rather that the reader is sheltered and squeamish for even questioning it.
