finished the debutante section, which was sadly lacking in pretentious hilarity as compared to other sections. about to enter the girl gang section which I'm sure will anger me much more

four pages later and I'm realizing how disgusting it is that the author continues to point out the clothes and bodies of girls 14 - 6 yrs old. often before she quotes what these girls are saying, she is pointing out their miniskirts + toned legs. feels like she is purposely trying to lead readers to make conclusions about these girls based on their clothes and is sexualizing girls who are not even out of high school

this book is fuckin hilarious in how pretentious it is. the author has such a hate boner for all the girls/women she is claiming to be investigating and at one point is dumbfounded by a person starting small talk with "what's your favorite color?". hatereading at this point and getting a lot more enjoyment out of it that way

Ok, so it's not great. Some other review mentioned the contempt that she seems to have for the people she's writing about, and I'd have to agree that it's pretty distracting.
Also, I get that things have changed in 15 years, but she talks about San Mateo county like it's a of crime warzone, which seems a touch melodramatic. All the same, I think I'll stick it out since it's short and the subject is interesting.
