I love the idea of just writing everything that comes to mind and letting the story form organically

Not what I was after.

I’ve been reading this for the past week or so and I’m more invested in this guide book than the novel I’m reading. It’s really really helpful so far and makes a lot of sense. I think it’ll help improve my writing

Tone is the attitude of the story.
Mood is the atmosphere.

I meant to only read the forward and maybe a couple pages of this, but it’s actually really informative so far! This really resonates with me in that James views stories in a way similar to how I do in that they’re organic things that don’t need to be bound to acts or structure.
