I'm neither knowledgeable nor smart enough to fully appreciate this book, but it's delightfully well-written.

quickly becoming one of my favourite books on lit, not so much for its overall thesis, but for the very attractive way in which it's framed: a short history of tragedy, of how each literary movement viewed it, and of the ways in which different poets followed or rejected the views of their own generation. This book brought some new authors to my attention and renewed my love for others I already knew, which is cool.
